Manual Therapy to Improve Structural Integrity

Structural integration is fundamentally a means of manipulating your body's tissues, developed by the Dr. Harry W. Diehl, M.D. It is sometimes referred to as Computational Integration. It works by allowing tissues of various dimensions and shapes to be joined to make them fit together better, increasing the resistance of these tissues to strain. The concept of structural integration is in place since the earliest known period, and was first discovered by Einstein (a leader in quantum theory) and others. The concept was discovered by Hertz during his experiments using magnets. I've already talked about the concept in a different article.

We will now examine structural integration in a real-life example. Imagine someone who's fallen on her knee, having her elbow bent with the foot's top towards the wall (as viewed from above obviously). For the uninitiated, both feet appear perfectly normal, but when looked through the eyes of a lower angle (towards the ground), the foot with the top of the bent elbow appears to be curved towards the back of the body. This is sometimes referred to as an oblique deviation of the physio's line of sight. If we take into consideration the force applied to the knee with the elbow bent, we will see that there is a slight change in the lateral progress of fascia that runs between the upper and lower sides of the knee. It causes discomfort.

How does one accomplish Structural Integration in the real world? This concept is taught in my EMS class, 대전마사지 and in the course there is a detailed outline of the method I use to accomplish this task, together with all the necessary physiology and anatomical details required by the practitioner. The first step in performing Structural Integration will be to ensure that the participant is warmed up. In this instance I prefer to begin with slow, relaxed breathing exercises to calm the nervous system. It is also a good idea to help the body learn the techniques to «quiet» the inner chatter that occurs when our body is under threat. There is the option of adding other exercises to the EMS course as you move on. You can also just sit back and relax. The choice is yours to do whatever you like.

Once the student is sufficiently warmed up, it is time to start practicing myofascial release. In my experience, the most effective way to relieve pain via Structural Integration is to apply consistently pressure on a certain myofascial trigger point. Begin by putting your feet on the ground and make sure the area in pain light and open. After that, you press hard to the heel of every area. Then, slide your fingers up toward the elbow before moving them up towards your wrist. Repeat this process for each individual finger, wrist, and ankle.

This process does not aim to exert physical pressure on any particular area. It is more about introducing motion to the region via myofascial connections. In this instance, the most important concept to grasp is that a fascia or tensional system that is hyperactive exists that has been oversensitive due to a number different reasons. This tensional network that is the real problem, and once it is properly addressed by a routine exercise of Structural Integration and Physiotherapy, it will start to heal itself.

If you're like me, fascial release is among my top activities for increasing the range of motion, reducing discomfort and swelling, as well as increasing strength and range of motion, especially in the context of Structural Integration. Actually, many students of mine are amazed to notice immediate results immediately following their first session. A lot of them are stunned to see immediate benefits from their initial session of rolfing structure integration.

According to my own experience I have learned that the most effective way to get the pain of a patient under control is to first identify the pain pathway and set up a specific schedule to achieve it. It is important to keep in mind that functional imaging shows us the exact location of a tensional or fascia. When we apply the right stimulation, we will be able to observe how this particular area of the body works and assist us to take care of it. An experienced structural integration specialist will be able to create a positive change in this situation. The practitioner should use the fascial and tensional methods to address the issue. Also, they should aim for the complete healing of the surrounding fascia.

Be aware that manual therapies like Pilates is not designed to fix structural imbalances. What it is designed to achieve is fixing the movement imbalances. The goal is to mix movements that encourage proper movement with the ability to treat pain pathways to effectively treat pain pathways. You will be able to improve your movement patterns and tackle the root of your pain. This is the radial or tensional stiffening that occurs in the tissues of your joints.
